Setting Up Custom Domains for Your 8020CRM Experience Cloud Site

Updated: Aug 10

Overview

A custom domain gives your 8020CRM Experience Cloud site a branded, easy-to-remember web address. Instead of sending users to a default Salesforce URL, you can give them a direct link under your own domain - helping build trust, improve user adoption, and strengthen your brand.

Before You Begin

  • You’ll need System Admin access in Salesforce.

  • Access to your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Squarespace).

  • Your Salesforce-provided Experience Cloud domain information (available in Setup).

Why It Matters

A branded portal link makes it easier for your clients, partners, and team members to access your Experience Cloud site. It also:

  • Increases brand recognition.

  • Improves SEO for client-facing content.

  • Provides a secure, HTTPS-enabled access point.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Grant Delegate Access in Your Domain Registrar (GoDaddy Example)

  1. Log in to your GoDaddy account.

  2. Navigate to Domains > Settings > Delegate Access.

  3. Click Invite to Access.

  4. Enter the name and email of the person who needs access.

  5. Choose the appropriate permission level (DNS-only is usually sufficient).

  6. Send the invite and confirm the recipient accepts.

2. Add CNAME Records

  1. In your domain’s DNS settings, create a new CNAME record for your portal:

    • Host: deals (example)

    • Points to: The Salesforce-provided Experience Cloud domain.

  2. Repeat for any additional CNAME records listed in your Salesforce setup instructions.

  3. Save changes.

3. Add Your Domain in Salesforce

  1. In Salesforce Setup, search for Domains.

  2. Select Add a Domain.

  3. Enter your custom domain (e.g., deals.yourdomain.com).

  4. Choose to have Salesforce manage SSL certificates (recommended).

4. Verify and Activate

  • Wait for DNS changes to propagate (can take up to 24 hours, usually faster).

  • In Salesforce, check the domain status and click Activate once verified.

5. Test Your Custom Domain

  • Open your new custom URL in a browser.

  • Confirm it loads your Experience Cloud site securely (HTTPS).

  • If issues occur, recheck your DNS settings and Salesforce domain setup.

Real Estate Use Case

For real estate investment firms, a custom portal domain adds professionalism and credibility when communicating with sellers, buyers, and private lenders. For example:

  • Seller Portals: Give property owners a direct link (e.g., offers.yourcompany.com) where they can review offers and track closing steps.

  • Buyer Portals: Provide a password-protected space for cash buyers to view available inventory, submit offers, and request showings.

  • Investor Portals: Share project updates, rehab progress photos, and financial reports under a branded URL that reinforces trust with your capital partners.

Best Practices

  • Use a clear, easy-to-remember subdomain (e.g., portal.yourcompany.com).

  • Keep DNS records organized and document changes for future reference.

  • Test in multiple browsers before sharing with users.
